About Our Trip

We at the Peoples Church have been invited by our friends and mission partners at Fundación Doulos to join them for a women’s retreat and to see their ongoing work in the community. There are incredible things happening in Colombia, especially in light of the refugee crisis in neighbouring Venezuela, climate change affecting food security and ways of life, and residual hardship from economic and political upheaval. 

We’ve learned that an important value of God’s mission is Mutuality, so while we are going to give and share, we also look forward to receiving and learning from our Latin American sisters and brothers.
 

Lord-willing, we will be sharing:
- Our testimonies, to illustrate Jesus’ sufficiency and power in our lives as women, moms, wives, daughters, and professionals
- Our presence and attentiveness, demonstrating that we value their work, relationship, and country enough to go be with them
- Our words and actions, to encourage ladies, play with kids, serve food, worship fully, and pray powerfully

Lord-wiling, we will be receiving:
- A vision that the “church” is not just a certain kind of building, and “pastors” are not just preachers
- An appreciation of God working in remote areas while visiting believers from the Wayuu tribe in La Guajira
- Inspiration from ordinary, obedient people who in God’s extraordinary hands are entrepreneurs, change agents, and servant leaders

Most importantly, we pray Isaiah 6:8; "here we are, send us." We want to glorify Jesus, be led by the Spirit of God as He invites us into His work. 

 

We are humbly asking God to move powerfully not just during the trip, but especially after we return. When we come back, we want to mirror and serve alongside our Colombian sisters from Toronto, using the home, profession, resources, passions and gifts that God has given us.  We pray that these ripple effects will move in you too.
