Ana's Reflections
Updated: Nov 6, 2023
From the moment I was invited to be a part of this group of Christian women heading to Colombia on a special mission to share the love of Jesus with our brothers and sisters, I knew it was a unique opportunity. We came from Canada with eight different cultures, but we shared a common purpose: to serve and, above all, to let our Colombian brothers and sisters know how important they are to us and to The Peoples Church. Looking back on these ten days, I believe we achieved our goal.
Seeing the beautiful faces of our sisters and children from Barranquilla, La Guajira, and Cartagena was a gift from God. Moreover, discovering Venezuelan brothers and sisters within that community was truly significant for me. Knowing their gratitude toward the Church led by Pastors Hernan and Rosa, along with their children and relatives, makes me feel that the great commission Jesus entrusted us with to go and make disciples is being fulfilled in that place.
The focus of the first two days with the extraordinary women's conference showed me how valuable women are in shaping their children and Christian homes. The workshops at the conference are helping them face life's challenges and follow the Word of God's guidance. Personally, featuring the special participation of Nancy Ramirez with her exceptional message and accompanied by her Christian music with the sound of Vallenato, transported me back to my home country, I felt that her message spoke directly to me, and also I believe that every leader who conducted these workshops during the conference contributed to my growth.
After the conference, our focus shifted to the children of La Guajira, Barranquilla, and Cartagena. I know our presence left an impact on their lives. Playing, performing a play, sharing meals, and giving them gifts, I am confident that God will complete the work that was started in the hearts of each of these children and young people.
My greatest satisfaction has been learning more about the ministry of Pastors Hernan and Rosa. Despite their limitations, they have reached so many souls for Christ. Their son Daniel, his wife Helen, and their daughter Rebeca are also part of the Doulos Foundation, where they support churches and communities both inside and outside Colombia.
I want to express special thanks to Helen for her effort and dedication as a translator for the sisters who did not speak Spanish. Her work was excellent, which allowed us to fully engage in the conference without interruption.
Finally, I would like to thank The Peoples Church for the opportunity to have lived this wonderful experience in Colombia, my neighbor country. I am grateful to Pastors Hernan, Rosa, their family, and their congregation for their warm and welcoming reception. To my sisters who participated, I am thankful for your support, dedication, friendship, and the love you showed each other during this precious time. Despite our different personalities, we demonstrated that we are all still on the path with Jesus, and this was confirmed during our time together. I love you all.
