Yesie's Reflections

Updated: Dec 14, 2023

We have returned from our trip. Thank you, Lord! Our lives are always in his hands.

The Lord worked through and spoke to each of our team members very personally and powerfully. The next few posts will be in their own words! First off - Yesie:

It was a blessing to take part of this mission trip to Colombia. From meeting amazing women of faith to see how God moves and hearing about miracles they have experience was jaw dropping. We heard how they have overcome crisis. What touched me was a woman who’s son was sick and the doctors couldn’t do anything. She told God that she gave her son to Him knowing that he would be better there with no more pain and she left peace with that. Hearing how the only solution they had after the doctors and medicine men couldn’t help them someone would tell them that they needed to pray to God for healing and because He healed them they came to Christ and their families did too after seeing what He had done. We also had the opportunity to meet many Indigenous people. They wanted to share their testimony of what the Lord had done. I was moved by a mom that came to me and told me that her 14 year-old wants to be a missionary like the ones that work with them and ones that come from far away like us. Hearing how passionate she is at a young age moved me and I know that God will move through her among her people. We got to see how no matter where they came from, whether Colombian or Venezuelan, what connects them is the same God that we serve, the King of Kings and Lord of Lords. On the last day we went to take part of a Saturday morning kids program. They received us with open arms, and how loving they are and their willingness to serve touched me deeply. I heard they were serving lunch for them and I asked if I could help. Well they put me to work and as I was part of an assembly line adding the beans to the delicious rice and meat I got to meet the lady in charge of the program. I love how she saw a need and did something about it. Some of the kids go there without having had breakfast and they feed them and the moms that come.

I was sitting at a table with the older boys when they got their special treat (ice cream). I noticed that one wasn’t eating it, I haven’t seen a kid pass on ice cream before, I know I wouldn’t. I asked if he was going to eat it and he said that he was saving it for his mom because she liked ice cream. Then I turned to a little girl and asked why she wasn’t eating her ice cream and she said she was saving it for a friend that wasn’t there, and also because I was passing along some of my food to her and she was so full 🤭I can’t express how I felt when I heard them saving something that they wanted for themselves but were willing to save it for someone else. I’m coming home with a desire to go back just to see those kids and seeing what God is doing with them. They come there week after week with an open heart to learn about God. A verse that came to mind was: 1 Peter 4:9-10 New Living Translation (NLT) Cheerfully share your home with those who need a meal or a place to stay. God has given each of you a gift from his great variety of spiritual gifts. Use them well to serve one another. I saw this everywhere we went with our mission partners. It was a blessing.
